Ólafur Arnalds Releases New EP And Video

We’re delighted to announce that BAFTA winning Icelandic composer, musician and producer Ólafur Arnalds today releases his String Quartets EP and shares the music video for momentary.

The EP is a collection of string quartet recordings of three compositions taken from his critically acclaimed album, ‘re:member’, and features the tracks ‘saman’, ‘momentary’ and ‘nyepi’.

Some of the piano compositions I wrote for re:member I intended to be played by a string quartet, but ended up really liking the demo recordings which I recorded on my piano as I was writing the songs. The quartet versions have given me a chance to explore how the songs would have ended up if I had gone down that different path with them.

Ólafur originally included a 7” version of this EP alongside a special, limited edition Record Store Day release of his album ‘re:member’, which was available on vinyl with five different bespoke artworks, shipped at random across the globe.
