World Sleep Day 2022

March 18, 2022

Today in recognition of World Sleep Day, 10 artists from across the globe release 30 brand new tracks and 10 new EPs. The musicians, coming from five different labels within Universal Music Group, have created 30 new compositions in total, aimed at helping provide a serene environment conducive to a restful night’s sleep. Showcasing a variety of new compositions, arrangements and remixes, the artists have each contributed an EP to celebrate World Sleep Day — an annual event organized by World Sleep Society. And now — worldwide and across all major digital providers — you can listen to the music here.

Many of today’s most exciting composers have created new pieces for World Sleep Day. American composer and pianist Chad Lawson brings his own emotive signature sound with three new tracks that include the remix of his Billie Eilish cover “when the party’s over (Slowed Remix),” “Stay (Slowed Remix),” and “One Day You Finally Knew (Slowed Remix).” Australian pianist and composer Sophie Hutchings offers up dreamlike renditions of classic children’s film songs that include “Pure Imagination” (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) and “Rainbow Connection” (The Muppet Movie). American composer and Music Director of the Louisville Orchestra, Teddy Abrams, contributes three new compositions that include space-inspired tracks “Nebula” and “Steampunk Spacecraft.” Grammy and Academy Award-nominated composer Stephan Moccio’s tracks revolve around soothing night themes with compositions including “pt. 2 Eventide,” “pt. 1 Owl Light,” and “pt. 3 Midnight.”

Newcomers to the World Sleep Day playlist include piano virtuoso Gina Alice, Texas duo Balmorhea with three new tracks (“Intake,” “Solanales,” and “Perhaps”), and ASCAP award-winning and BAFTA nominated composer Tom Salta with “First Sleep” and “Second Sleep.”

Additionally, new compositions written for the yearly event include Australian composer Luke Howard’s “A Bad Dream That Will Pass Away,” “The Closing of the Gates – Piano Version,” and “The Great Longing of an Unquiet Heart;” Norwegian composer and pianist Ola Gjeilo’s planetary inspired “Saturn” and “Jupiter;” and British composer Peter Gregson’s “Pause,” “Breathe,” and “Intake.”

World Sleep Day is an annual call to action about the importance of healthy sleep. An internationally recognized awareness event, it focuses on the impact of sound sleep habits on overall well-being.
